IPods For Language Learning

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

I cannot help smiling when I browse the Internet or I visit a book store and I see one of those language guides that say something like:”Learn Japanese in 7 days”. Learning a new language is a project that takes a lot of time and we are all looking for various ways to reduce this time.

But reducing it to a blink of an eye it’s a fairytale. It’s important to not throw yourself in a mindless quest like the one of looking for language guides that can teach you a language in one week, because such guides do not really exist. There’s no easy way to learn a language, and there’s certainly no fast way.

The best way to learn a new language is online. Of course that teacher held classes in Universities or other locations can be useful, but these classes are very far sometimes and must be attended at certain hours. It’s tough to actually go to these classes when you are already in a hurry. In case of online learning, this aspects are no longer relevant. Online classes offer infinite flexibility and we can simply continue yesterday’s lesson tomorrow.

It’s better to divide the session over more months, not just one month of intensive learning Learning bit by bit will allow information to be remembered and understood easier and you won’t have to worry about tiredness or over-solicitation. Some people copy even learn a bit by listening to music on ipod, turning the ipod portable speakers at a reasonable level so they can carry on with other activities. Don’t underestimate this aspect: if you have fun while you’re learning you will be surprised of the result.

We all love to find amusement in things we have to learn. Anything that is fun can be learnt in 10 minutes, like word puzzles. For busy people that are already stressed enough from work, playing a language game for 15 minutes during a break can be the optimal solution. It will take you longer to learn the language, but you will learn it without much effort.

The Most Significant War Movies Of All Time

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

When it comes to movies, one of the most revered genres is War. War films have a certain prestige to them, and are expected to be great. It is not a coincidence that so many of the best award winning films of all time happen to be based around historical wars and battles.

This article will discuss some of the greatest movies of this genre to ever be released.

Say what you want about Mel Gibson. Yes, he is crazy and clearly has some issues based on the recent phone recordings that have leaked of his. But that does not take away from the masterpiece that is Braveheart. Based on the legend of William Wallace, this film remains one of my favorites.

Also starring an actor that may not be my favorite person, but can surely deliver a role as good as anyone, is Russell Crowe as the role of Maximus in Gladiator. This may be Joaquin Phoenix’s best role as well as Commodus. This is an iconic villain if we have ever seen one.

Schindler’s list is probably number one on my list. I feel that above all his other great films, this movie is Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece. Liam Neeson and Ben Kingsley are incredible in this movie, and it is no wonder it is ranked as a top 10 film of all time on iMDB.

Another Steven Spielberg directed film, also about World War II that certainly makes my list, is Saving Private Ryan. The first sequence in this movie is one of the most historically important war scenes of all time. A must see for any history enthusiast.

Full Metal Jacket focuses on the Tet Offensive, as well as the mental effects that boot camp had on many soldiers during the Vietnam War. Stanley Kubrick at his finest.

It is amazing to look at this list and realize how many other great films could have made it. I just may have to make another list.
