Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

In case you find it difficult to imagine a phone with nothing but basic features which allow you to talk and text, maybe you should spare a thought for the aged people who need just that. And the Doro 326i certainly has stepped in to cater to their need for a phone which does not try be ‘smart’.

Though the Doro HandlePlus 326i GSM is not marketed as a phone for the aged and infirm, you can easily make out that this is not your everyday mobile phone. The looks and features all point in this direction.

At first look, you may think it’s a toy or a calculator. The hard plastic body, the large black buttons and the numbering in large fonts, hardly make it look like a cell phone!

But a cell phone it is, albeit with a low resolution screen which suits the features of this phone perfectly.

And to further facilitate the ease of use by aged people, the Doro 326i has four large memory buttons, marked A-D. A list of the most important numbers can also be stuck on the battery, which really is handy for the old folks.

The display is clear and the soft touch coating, safety lanyard and call timer make this phone even more suitable for the targeted demographic. But its audio quality which sets this phone apart from most others.

You will struggle to find another cell phone which provides such loud and clear sound as the Doro, whether via loudspeaker or headphone. This is a boon for people with hearing problems, though people with normal hearing will obviously find it too loud.

This phone is not for everyone, because you would not really want to take it out and destroy your cool quotient. But if you have specific age related problems which make using mobiles a tough task for you, the Doro 326i is definitely a great option!
